Polyurethane

Polyurethane is an extremely versatile polymer that allows for a wide range of products with very different properties and uses. It is mainly used for the production of furniture, fixtures, coatings and seals. Polyurethane is an extremely strong and durable material with insulating properties and flexible characteristics. It also has good adhesion and chemical resistance properties. Because of its high level of elasticity, it can be easily molded into a wide range of shapes and is also water-resistant. It can also be used as a building material to create heat- and sound-insulated floors. Polyurethane can also be used as foam to pad cushions and mattresses, making them softer and more comfortable.

Its mechanical properties are vastly superior to those of conventional elastomers.

It retains its resilience even when exposed to major temperature changes, far better than other rubbers.

As a technical material it lies somewhere between rubbers and plastics.
